1958 Fender P Bass used by the ROLLING STONES
Darryl Jones, who played bass with the Rolling Stones, previoulsy owned this P bass, and used this actual guitar during the Stone's "Last Bridges of Babylon" tour. Now this incredible instrument has an important place in American Rock n Roll history. I know why he chose this bass to play on such an important tour and now you can too.
Look at the cool wear on the original three tone sunburst finish. It has a super sleek contour. It's got the look, the mojo, the vibe....whatever you want to call it. It looks like every very cool well played vintage Fender should with the cool original anodized guard.
Once you get beyond the vintage aura, and you actually pick it up you realize it doesn't weigh anything. It's just one dried out slab of Alder. When the moisture evaporates from the wood over many years those unwanted pounds are shed. This baby has been on the Atkins diet for 50 years and it shows. Next you thump a note on the original round wounds that are still on there from the Stones concert, and five minutes later the note is still ringing. I think this resonant quality has something to do with the dryness of the old wood.
The smooth original frets, perfectly straight neck, combined with the original laquer on the neck, and the low action, seem to make this P play effortlessly.
The original wound pickup produces a sound to good to even try to decribe. When you combine the resonance factor, with the feather weight factor, along with the original wound pickup, originl finish, original frets on the maple board, etc.. than you really have something to get excited about.
What really puts it over the top is where it's been. It's royal bloodline and excuisite provenance. This instrument truly has the potential to reach a six figure value someday, so for what it is, I'm not asking much for it. Your average ordinary original 58 P Bass is going for what ... 9-10K. I'll let it go for 12.5k if someone can pull the trigger before i come to my senses. Someday if you sell it to a collector for huge dough you can keep all the profit yourself. Why am I selling? Only because I've got bills to pay.
It's a nice straight bass except Darryl added a brass nut and drop D tuner. The solder, and finish etc.. are untouched. Everything from the neck to the pots is dated 1958. It comes just like I got it years ago in Darryl's non-orig black hardshell road case with no pu covers.
This bass is the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to vintage Fender basses!
